"In good humour"
I woke up to my phone pinging. Having checked my notifications, I was scrolling through my newsfeed and came across a post which said,
"Dating my ex? Want some of my leftover pizza too?"
My brain's la-di-da swinging steps came to a rude, abrupt and resounding halt. I know I may seem to be overreacting here but I was stunned. I felt violated. Not only as a woman, if you're scared I'm going to pull the F-card (Feminism) on you but as a human being.
I'm aware it's a troll comment, meant to be taken as a joke but- is it really? How far are we willing to go in the name of a joke? Is there no line we choose to draw for ourselves that segregates a healthy joke from an over the top comment in bad taste?
Humour is a means of expressing the truth in a manner that isn't as offensive to the person at the receiving end. This comment was absolute shit.
I'm sorry but where is the basic dignity that you award to a fellow human being, forget someone you've been intimately involved with? A relationship is taking the conscious decision to be with someone you value, honour and respect. So just because it didn't work out, you think it's okay to disregard their worth as a human being too?
I agree, sometimes these people we don't end up being with, are despicable. They've probably hurt you more than a swing of a bat to the back of your head. But what sets you and them apart? Definitely not dehumanizing them with such a disgraceful remark.
I think all I'm asking for is a little maturity in how we handle situations that don't go our way. So you've been hurt, wronged, betrayed, broken? Come on. Take a deep breath and walk away from it with your self-respect intact. Don't belittle yourself by passing comments you wouldn't want directed to yourself. This person is as much of an individual as you are and in the name of awarding recognition to that as an adult be less callous. They aren't leftover pizza. They were the love of your life at a point.
PS- What you choose to laugh at says a lot about the person you are.
PPS- Good humour is awesome.

True.. just because it didn't work between you two doesn't mean that the other person is wrong. It means that you two are not made for each other.
